General Information

The informal/natural pond is a rock edged pool set at ground level. The floor of the pond is graded so that there is a slightly deeper end. Rocks are set 6" or so under the water so that no liner shows around water level.

There are no marginal plant shelves but planting pockets in between the rocks instead. This cuts out the need for ugly plastic plant baskets and a plant shelf that takes up a lot of room in the pond. Gravel is placed in between and at the back of the rocks so that there is a small border between the pond and any turf, which makes for ease of maintenance.

If a crystal clear pond all year round is a must then a filter system must also be installed - see costings chart.

The pond can be planted if required as well as having a host of other accessories available from waterfalls to fountains (see chart).

Construction

A reinforced concrete collar is constructed around the perimeter of the pond, not only to give the pond its shape but to provide a level and permanent base for the edging rocks. Sited approximately 6" below surrounding ground level, the collar enables the rocks to be partially submerged which hides the liner around water level as well as keeping the soil in the planting pockets in between the rocks moist for marginal plants.

The pond is pre-lined with soft sand and geo-textile underlay and lined with 0.75mm quality butyl liner. The liner comes with a manufacturer's 'lifetime' guarantee to ensure that it will never go brittle or perish.

Filters are buried where possible on a concrete base to ensure a permanent level. All pipework is fully valved and buried, and all cables are buried in conduit where possible.
